BLS vs ALS vs IALS

Non Emergency Transports may be classified as BLS, IALS, or ALS based on their clinical needs.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

A BLS transport is staffed by two certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) trained in essential life-support skills and patient care. BLS is appropriate for patients who are stable but still require medical supervision and assistance during transportation.

Advanced Life Support (ALS)

ALS transport is staffed by a Paramedic (and typically an EMT partner) and provides the highest level of pre-hospital care during transport. ALS is used for patients with serious or unstable medical conditions who require continuous advanced medical care while en route to a facility.

Intermediate Advanced Life Support (IALS)

An IALS transport is staffed by one EMT-Basic and one EMT-Advanced, allowing for an elevated level of medical care during transport. Our Advanced EMTs are trained and authorized to administer additional medications and perform advanced procedures when clinically necessary.
